Charlie and the "W" Factory

Alright, so the title sucks... get over it.

The Pirates defeated the Marlins 7-4 tonight, but they beat them a lot more than the scoreboard suggests. Charlie Morton was fantastic, going 6 innings and only giving up 1 hit. I didn't watch the game and haven't even been able to watch the condensed game or anything because mlb.com is being silly, but I read about it. Fellow blogger Raise The Jolly Roger says Morton was a little bit wild tonight and didn't have full control of the strikezone. The guy over at Bucco-Blog is a real pessimist and basically said Morton only had a good night because the Marlins were swinging at pitches out of the zone. But bucco-blog never has anything good to say, I really don't like that blog. It's quite possible that Morton realized he was getting bad swings on balls out of the zone so he decided to keep throwing out of the zone. Maybe his stuff was so good that the batters just couldn't pick it up well enough to realize it was out of the zone. Look at the positives here man, nobody pitches 6 innings of one-hit ball against a major league baseball team (a first place team mind you) without pitching really well.

The other stories of this game were Andrew McCutchen having 2 hits, and Brandon Moss and Ramon Vasquez hitting home runs. This might be the only game this year that both Moss and Vasquez go deep. That's ridiculous. I could go ahead and say that "maybe Moss has figured out the home run swing now and will start hitting some bombs", but we all know that wouldn't be true and saying that is a little bit TOO optimistic.

Good win for the Pirates, it seems they win more often when I don't watch. (I was at work by the way, I had a good reason). Tomorrow the bucs take on the Marlins again, Zach Duke vs. Andrew Miller at 6:10 (does anybody know why these games are starting at 6:10?). I will be missing this game too because I'll be downtown for some July 4th festivities. Let's Go Bucs!
